Overcome Anxiety & Panic Attacks (please see my blog for information on how to help with anxiety)

Anxiety can be debilitating and effect how we feel about ourselves, our relationships, our work and our social life. We can suffer from general anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety or performance anxiety.

Anxiety and anxiety related issues are the most common reasons that clients come for treatment and it is an area in which Hypnotherapy is very effective.

Anxiety is caused by overthinking and a build up of negative thoughts and worries. Every negative thought that we have is accumulated causing our stress levels to rise, which in turn triggers the fight, flight or freeze response, as our minds think we are in danger. As our stress rises we lose intellectual control. There is a method of lowering our stress levels and it is known as REM sleep, Rapid Eye Movement.

REM is restricted to about 20% of our sleep pattern. If we try to overdo that because there is too much for the brain to process then the mind will wake us up in the night. This can lead to a vicious circle. The more stress we have stored, the more time we will spend in the primitive part of our brain trying to process the stress and the more we will trigger the stress response and be encouraged to be negative.

Hypnosis is effective in reducing stress levels and the sessions teach you skills and tools to lower stress levels yourself, to enable you to take back control.

Clients also often report improvements in their sleep and confidence.

Through Hypnotherapy you can learn to change your reactions to situations that cause you to feel anxious and to deal with situations differently. Hypnosis, descensitisation and reframing techniques, together with mental reshersal can be very effective in lowering anxiety, and raising confidence. This allows you more control over your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, enabling you to feel more relaxed and confident in all situations and to achieve the results you want!.

There are numerous phobias, the most common being fear of flying or fear of public spaces. The intense fear we feel means we spend a lot of time aoviding certain things or situations and our world becomes smaller as we stop enjoying some of the things we used to.

Phobias usually develop as a result of a distressing or traumatic event, often in childhood.

Hypnotherapy can be extremely effective in helping people to overcome phobias through the use fo hypnosis to lower levesl of anxety (if levels of general anxiety are high this will need to be addressed first). The rewind and descentisation techniques. followed by a reframe of how you would like to experience the situaion, experienced in hypnosis can help you to regain control once again.

Confidence and Self-esteem

Life's difficulties and experiences can affect how we feel about ourselves and result in low confidence and self-esteem, which can have a massive impact on all areas of life.

Improve Sleep

When we are stressed or anxious we may experience problems with getting to sleep, our brains being ""too busy" to relax or it may be that we wake during the night feeling anxious and then cannot easily get back to sleep. Often a vicious circle develops, fuelled by a new worry ...........worry about not getting to sleep.

Hypnosis if often an effective treatment for insomnia, as it can help an individual to relax, both mentally and physically and this can help to break this cycle, encouraging a more effective sleep pattern to be restored. Hypnotherapy can also help to gain insights for the reasons for the sleepless night, and solution focused techniques can be very effective, helping the client to address any issues, resulting in a better nights rest.

Managing Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common chronic condition which affects the digestive system. It is unknown exactly what causes IBS. However it is thought that stress is a major contributing factor. Stress can trigger chemical changes that interfere with the normal workings of the digestive system. Any stressful situation (for example, family problems, work stress, examinations) may trigger symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Therefore, our state of mind can have a huge impact on our physical well-being. Hypnotherapy can help to reduce stress, which can help to stop triggering the symptoms of IBS. Hypnotherapy can also help to manage pain, promote positive thinking and coping strategies, all of which can help you to be back in control of your life again.

What is IBS and what are the symptoms?

In IBS, the function of the gut is upset, yet all parts of the gut look normal even when looked at under a microscope. IBS is aproblem with how the bowel works, otherwise there is nothing wrong with the bowel. IBS may not cause any harm to your body but it sometimes causes a lot of discomfort.

Symptoms of IBS, can include:-

  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness
  • Hearburn

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommend that GP’s refer clients to psychological therapies, Hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behaviour therapy (CBT)  if they do not respond to medication.  There have been several research studies that have shown Hypnotherapy to have been successful in using Hypnotherapy to manage IBS: notably the studies by Dr. D. H. Vasant, Dr P. J. Whorwell and Dr. Palsson.

It is always a privilege to work with women during their pregnancies and help them prepare for the birth of their babies. I am very joyful to be involved in such an amazing and miraculous field of work.


Solution focused Hypnotherapy for pregnancy and preparation for childbirth uses a combination of hypnosis and positive visualization techniques and the use of special relaxation CD’s to use in-between sessions.

What are guided visualisations & hypnosis?

Guided visualisations are when you are you are guided into a relaxated state whilst listening and imaging relaxation scenes or images. Perhaps you will be in a beautiful garden, a relaxing beach, walking across lovely meadows or watching a waterfall in a woodland.

Hypnosis can be likened to a state of relaxed, focused awareness, which most people experience every day. This state is experienced when a person becomes deeply relaxed and highly focused, for example, when daydreaming. You will be guided into this relaxed state by listening to the sound of my voice and people describe hypnosis as being extremely pleasant and deeply relaxing, giving them a feeling of well-being.

Working in this way can help you to feel good and more empowered.

The Old School House is located in the Parsons Pool and Bleke street corner of the Bell street Car Park (SP7 8AP). There is a pay and display car park for up to 2 hours. Alternatively you can park in the Tesco car park (SP7 8PF) for free for up to 3 hours

In Frome sessions are provided in Keyford and there is free parking provided.

Fees & availability

I am providing sessions both face-to-face and online, which is proving to be just as effective as in person sessions. Working online allows you to access sessions from your own home and from anywhere, without the need to travel and cutting down on the time needed.   • The fee for an Initial Consultation is £55.00
  • Each session from thereafter is £60.00
  • The fee for a 45 minutes relaxation session is £45.00
